Trigger the hype explosions! Let the prospect lust flower! Declare today a personal day, ye subscribers to Baseball America! Scream loudly all those who love preciously spelled names.
Uber-super-never-been-better Royals prospect Wil Myers is headed to AAA. This is the second best day of our lives, to be topped only by his inimitable Major League Debut. For there is nothing better than a top prospect. They are, quite simply, all that matters.
Prior to last season BA rated Myers the #10 prospect in all of baseball. This season, he was #28, because apparently NUMBERS ARE DIFFERENT NOW AND #28 ACTUALLY MEANS #-100000000 BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HIS ORDINAL RANK SHOULD BE BECAUSE #1 ISN'T HIGH ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111111111
Myers has 13 homers in 35 games at AA this season.
Three weeks into the season, Royal secondbasemen -- Yuni and Getz in 50/50 split time -- had the third highest composite OPS of any 2B-team in the American League. With Yuni and Getz at 40 and 39 PAs respectively, their total line was a surprisingly good .333/.370/.464.
How have they done since?
As of this morning, May 16th, here's the "as a 2B" line for the Royals, with AL rank:
| BA | OBP | SLG | OPS | |
| .274 | .331 | .395 | .726 | |
| AL Rank | 5th | 6th | 7th | 7th |
So there's been a fairly large drop. The days of being in the Cano-Kinsler neighborhood are over.
Since April 26th, Getz has hit just .231/.311/.333 which has been nearly all of the composite decline, since he's basically been the only 2B out there since Yuni's injury. In 5 PAs as a 2B Johnny G has also contributed, posting a .000/.200/.000 line.
But the larger issue here is Getz, who appears to have stopped stinging the ball quite so much. Although, don't expect a decrease in playing time - the Royals just don't care about results when filling out the lineup card. (Gordon Beckham, however, is still awful.)
This has been your Royal secondbasemen update.

Mazzaro (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Lewis (3-2, 3.69 ERA)

Today is a big day for the legend that is Vincent Mazzaro. Even though he has pitched in 6 games since his infamous outing, he will always be remember for that night 365 days ago. In case you have been able to purge your fragile/warped mind of that outing, here is a summary of it:
Kyle Davies had the start that day. He faced 4 batters and walked 3 of them. After that game he would go on the DL with shoulder inflamation.
Nate Adcock relieved Davies and went 1.2 innings.
Mazzaro then relieved Adcock in the 3rd inning after Adcock had walked one batter. Mazzaro then got 3 straight outs to end the inning. Now it is time for the 10 run 4th inning:
LaPorta: Single to RF (Line Drive)
Hannahan: Groundout, 2B-SS/Forceout at 2B; Hannahan to 1B
Brantley: Walk; Hannahan to 2B
Cabrera: Single to SS (Pop Fly to Deep SS-3B Hole); Hannahan Scores; Brantley to 2B
Choo: Flyball: CF (Deep LF-CF); Brantley to 3B, Cabrera Steals 2B
Santana: Walk
Hafner: Double to CF (Fly Ball to Deep CF); Brantley Scores; Cabrera Scores; Santana Scores
Cabrera: Single to RF (Fly Ball to RF Line); Hafner Scores
Buck: Single to SS (Ground Ball to Weak SS); Cabrera to 2B
LaPorta: Double to LF (Line Drive to Deep LF); Cabrera Scores; Buck Scores
Hannahan: Single to RF (Ground Ball thru 2B-1B); LaPorta to 3B
Brantley: Home Run (Fly Ball to Deep RF); LaPorta Scores; Hannahan Scores
Cabrera: Strikeout Swinging
Moore admits to only "frustration" about all of this but did have strong words about criticism of the team not ordering an MRI when Duffy missed a start a few weeks ago because of elbow tightness.
"That’s idiotic," he says. "That’s really, really looking at things with a critical spirit."
Perhaps it is just the 26 seasons of playoffless baseball wrought with futility and chocked full of embarrassment, but somehow even with the Royals sporting a two-run lead with two outs, no runners on, and an 0-2 count on David Murphy, it still felt like the Royals were going to find a way to lose this game. A batter later with last year's stud Mike Napoli at the dish having worked a full count, a loss seemed inevitable.
Shockingly--at least as shocking as a single win in a 162-game season can be--the Royals held on to win in Arlington. Led by a strong start from everyone's favorite Sino-Panamanian southpawed jokester and run production provided by Chris Getz, Jeff Francoeur, and Alcides Escobar, the Rangers look inward, searching for explanations to bring their loss into a light informed by reason.
Good luck with that.
