Royals Review

Happy Birthday Andy Sisco!

Wow, Andy Sisco is still just 29 years old. I had anticipated seeing that he was 35 and feeling quite depressed about that, but nay, he's much younger. Which is also depressing in its own way.

Sisco was the random find of an unloved GM, so there wasn't much of a narrative around his out of nowhere success. Other than the fact that bad teams can take chances on live arms. In the end, he's another reminder of what live arms truly are and, often, what they are not. But no worries, we have the Best Farm System Ever, so our bullpen-first strategy will work out.

As you can see in his big stats bomb after the jump, Sisco is still around, trying to pitch (which I also didn't know). Mostly, he's just one of many of us trying to get back to the way things were in 2005.

he was into Taco Bell before Justin Verlander

pioneer spirit!

One of Moore's wise moves that he turned into a bad move

Moore saw that Sisco had some tools, but wasn’t really a decent all around pitcher (much like Ambiorix Burgos). So he traded him for Ross Gload. That was fine. But then he signs Gload to a completely pointless two-year guaranteed contract which only served to block Ryan Shealy (not good, but younger and at least had some upside potential which could have been explored) with a known mediocrity who struggled to keep his head above the replacement level waterline (often times unsuccessfully).

Moore has made something of a habit of this: making a good small move, and then doubling down on that small success with a lot of guaranteed money, and not to the benefit of the team. See also Horacio Ramirez, Jeff Francoeur and Bruce Chen.

Did DM originally take Sisco, or was that Allard?

That was also a good move. He was definitely worth a flyer.

That was DM

First summer, IIRC.

Correction

Allard acquired him and DM traded him…in his first summer on the job.

I feel sad that I wasn't around for the glory years of this man
A glory it was
Andrew "The Little Unit" Sisco
I believe the nickname of choice was

SISQUATCH

Are we still doing the Andy Sisco and Mark Quinn awards?
He's only 29? I remember the Thong Song being a hit when I was in seventh grade.
What

somebody wrote a song about flip flops? Hahaha what a dumbass.

And Only One

Of them, too.

He almost put up a 1 K/BB ratio while striking out 8 per 9 innings.

Impressive and why did we not keep him longer? He fits right in.

I wonder what the over/under is on his weight now?

Both BR and Fangraphs still have his old, official 6’10/270 height/weight. I’d bet a week’s pay that he’s over 300 now. Maybe over 325.

I'd take that bet, but I don't really need the twenty bucks.

IN YOUR FACE!!!!!!!!

I completely

forgot about andrew sisco

The best farm system ever phrase is worn out… Are you mocking a particular individual, or a group of people that claimed this? Either way, you come off as cynical.

He is justifiably cynical

And, while I cannot speak for Will, I think he’s satirizing the idea, put forward by some, either explicitly or implicitly, that the great Royals farm system will almost necessarily lead to great success for the major league team, regardless of what Dayton Moore chooses to do with that talent and regardless of what else he does with the major league team.

I can respect that

…perhaps your just mocking our farm system. In this case, I do not understand what you have to gain by poking fun at the phrase. I really dont understand what you have to gain by poking fun at the phrase at all. Are you trying to ground us? Keep our heads out of the clouds? Still, the repetition of this phrase is becoming trite.

Fair poiny
Point
its pretty funny

and in order to be a a fucking fan of kansas city you have to have a good sense of humor

Id like to think I have a good sense of Humor

But I will never enjoy Making fun of my team…..

well

David Glass makes fun of you every time you buy a parking pass and go to the game and watch the game and buy food and beer.

A little about me.

Its hard going into EVERY season with the same attitude. " ‘This could be the year we do something’ "…..whilst knowing it is unlikely and in most cases extremely unlikely. Maybe ten guys can break out this Year…..Maybe Ken Harvey is for Real! What if Vince Coleman and Brian Macrae both steal 60 bases? Perhaps Phil Hiatt will become a superstar……Runlevys Hernandez and Affeldt put it together for 16 wins each…… Juan Gonzalez Might perform as he had 5 years prior-Whilst KNOWING it wont happen. I’m trying to say, I understand the cynicism-I do, but I have a different kind of Devotion. I am realistic. Not optimistic. I am a Royals fan, and I can say for a certainty that will never change. We are all different. Forgive me if my posts seem ‘overzealous’ at times. I LOVE this team, and in an obviously different way than most, youll be hard-pressed to find another fan like me. I wont lighten up. I cant.

No problem Chosen1k

Welcome to the club. We’ll all scream ourselves hoarse down at the parade on the plaza next November.

or the november after that……or after that…

Not sure why, but I could sure go for some tacos right about now.

the funk soul brotha

skank

nice open thread FraDIY ?’s . . . . you still amongst the lower 48, or are you kissin cousins with Phil?

In college, my friends and I all went out to Steak n Shake one late night

and for some reason, one of my friends asked the waitress if they served tacos. We still haven’t let him forget this.

Happy Birthday San Luis Obispo!
Sisco is pitching for Puerto Rico in the Mexican League this offseason

8.27 ERA / 16.1 IP / 19 H / 3 HR / 16BB:14K

For realz? I wonder if he's on the same team with Kenny Powers

That K/BB ratio is brutal in any country, let alone Mexico.
