Dayton Moore trivia time

I though it would be a nice break from gazing hopefully towards the upcoming season and look back, perhaps fondly, upon the disasters that were Royals seasons of old.

So I decided to do a little digging and come up with a fun question for you, one that a quick Google search shouldn't provide the answer too.

Star-divide

I think we've all come to accept, in our own way, that Dayton Moore is perhaps not the best judge of major league talent.

and because I hate myself, I decided to see how bad.

Much like God judging Soddam and Gommorah, I set a totally arbitrary limit for making this post, if Moore had signed more position players with league average OBP over 200 or more AB's in a season (.350 give or take) than years he has had his job, then I wouldn't bother. Incidentally, just like God, this left me looking for 5 people who had not strayed from the path of patience.

Since you're reading this, you can probably imagine how that turned out. I was unable to find 5 players.

In fact, I was able to find 4. Gregor Blanco came tantalizingly close, but ultimately did not get enough at bats.

So your trivia question for the day is this:

4 Players fit the criteria. Who were they?

Small hint: None of them currently play for the Royals.

My guesses...

Mark Grudzielanek, Scott Podsednik, Matt Treanor, and since I can’t think of a fourth other than this one, Jason Kendall.

Shit. I should have been able to think of the non-Kendall later one.

Grudzielanek OBPed .346 and .345 in 2007 and 2008.

I’m pissed at myself for missing the other two.

Gathright actually had a .371 OBP in 261 PAs in 2007 but only had 228 ABs.

You got two of them.

Pods and Gathright.
Grudz was acquired by Baird and Treanor ended up with a sub .340 OBP
Two to go. Another hint, both were traded away from the Royals.

I would say Dougie

but he wasn’t traded was he?

Matt Treanor had a .351 OBP as a Royal.
Also correct!

Good catch, I miscalculated the monthly splits on Traenor.
So 5.
and unlike Soddam and Gommorah, Dayton lives to see another year.

Wilson Betemit
Callaspo?
Correct on both

Betemit and Callaspo were the other two.

Esteban German?

Or was he a Baird pickup?

There is no "yes" option in this poll

That’s even more confusing than the presence of “not sure”

The 5th one is Billy Butler.
