frank thomas 2006…prorated to 110 games…this type of move is precisely why billy beane is considered a genius. a minor league contract for a non guaranteed 500k…if he’s awesome, they trade him. if he sucks, they cut him. if he’s bad in the clubhouse, they cut him. as bad of a rap as manny gets, he’s allegedly very good with helping young teammates. so, in theory, also in that worse case scenario is you paying him to teach cespedes how to work hard and hit
Royals should have been in on this.
That’s my macro for every transaction.

Or he'll be Mike Piazza
Or Tim Raines
Or Nomar
Or one of the other dozen players that ended their career in Oakland with a thud.
RoyalsRetro - February 20, 2012
But yes, I agree
Probably worth a flyer, not much downside.
RoyalsRetro - February 20, 2012
and ESPN will now actually mention the A's this upcoming season

I look forward to Skip Bayliss's outrage
RoyalsRetro - February 21, 2012
he'll still be too busy yelling about
the heat not being lebron’s team and him being a choke artist even after he goes 38/10/10 in the finals as they sweep the clips or some shit
billybeingbilly - February 21, 2012
Is he done talking about Tebow yet?
RoyalsRetro - February 21, 2012
I haven't heard any Tebow buzz for weeks.
Let’s keep it that way.
…you hearing me, Skip?
Yodazilla - February 21, 2012
i blame jeremy lin
billybeingbilly - February 21, 2012
I'll take the under on his returning value...
ChrisCEIT - February 21, 2012
i agree here. he was signed for 1 reason: help Cepedes adjust to the USA and MLB.
i think his baseball skills were a secondary consideration here.
DickHowser4ever - February 21, 2012
watching Cepedes youtube videos...
I think they would have been wiser to invest in someone that actually knew how to avoid a positive test for PEDs
