San Francisco Giants 2011 defensive ranks in Baseball Reference Compared to 2010 defensive ranks:

| Rank in 16 NL teams | 14 | 16 | 1 |
2011: Errors/double plays/fielding percentage
| Rank in 16 NL teams | 7 | 13 | 9 |
Could Sanchez's 2011 problems be tied to the fact that the giants regressed greatly in fielding percentage? How much do you think the defense hurt a struggling pitcher such as 2011 Sanchez? If he was on say the Ray's in 2011 what would a comparable stat line be?

I don't think errors, double plays and fielding percentage tell us much about how good their defense was
It may have been awful for all I know, but I don’t think those stats measure fielding performance very well.

If you're using errors/fielding percentage
That’s not going to be reflected in his ERA. I don’t think its a very good way of evaluating defense anyway, since it doesn’t reflect all the balls that are getting past Pablo Sandoval’s fat face.
His FIP has been relatively similar the last four seasons – 3.85, 4.17, 4.00, 4.30. He is what he is IMO.

Some site like MLB Trade Rumors really needs to track this
“2013 Free Agents by position” is irrelevant when compared to pressing issues like BSOHL.
